Enjoy beautiful watercolors of birds by award-winning artist Art Lamay. The artist will do a demo & talk and you’ll get the chance to “identify” the species in the studio (birding indoors out of the heat!) Wine & pickings provided. Free to attend but space is limited. Saturday, October 14, 10:30am - Educational Program: Bird Photography Class

10:30am-11:30am: Join renowned wildlife photographer Jason Giraulo for an immersive bird photography workshop, designed to help you take your bird photography skills to the next level. During this workshop, you'll have the opportunity to learn from Jason's years of experience and expertise, as you explore the rich and diverse wildlife of Florida.

From capturing the beauty of colorful songbirds to the grace of soaring raptors, this workshop will cover all aspects of bird photography, from composition and lighting to camera settings and lens selection. You'll also learn how to approach and capture birds in the wild, using techniques to minimize disturbance and maximize your chances of getting the perfect shot.

This bird photography workshop is suitable for photographers of all levels, from beginners looking to get started in bird photography to experienced photographers looking to refine their skills. With its combination of practical instruction and hands-on experience, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to hone your bird photography skills and capture the beauty of the wild like never before.

Participants should bring their camera, their longest telephoto lens, and a tripod.

11:30am-12:30pm: Following the talk, we will explore next door - Betty Steflik Memorial Preserve. Along the boardwalk, we will look for waders, raptors and songbirds, pausing at a view of the Intracoastal Waterway, and continuing on a loop trail through coastal scrub. Saturday, February 10, 10:30am - Educational Program: Lake Apopka Restoration / Betty Steflik Memorial Preserve

10:30am-11:30am: Jim Peterson from the St. Johns River Water Management District will explain restoration of Lake Apopka.

11:30am-12:30pm: Following the talk, we will explore an example salt marsh right next door - Betty Steflik Memorial Preserve. Saturday March 9, 10am - Educational Program: Live Raptor Show, Presented by FPL / St. Joe Walkway

10am-11am: Before the show, join Flagler Audubon Society for a guided walk down St. Joe Walkway to see some local birds.

11am-Noon: Join us for the annual live raptor show. The Avian Reconditioning Center (ARC) is dedicated to raptor rehabilitation, education and research,  increasing public awareness and appreciation of Florida’s magnificent raptors and the natural habitats in which they live. They will bring their raptors for a demonstration and talk. Learn more about ARC at https://arc4raptors.org.

Saturday, May 11, 10am - Year-End Picnic, Bird Walk & Annual Meeting
Our year-end picnic / annual meeting (and bird walk, of course!) will occur at Princess Place Preserve. Get Your Ticket by May 9 (note: Eventbrite now only allows 25 tickets, so if they’re sold out, RSVP to flagleraudubon@gmail.com.)

Time: 10:00am-1:00pm Bird walk at 10:00 AM; Lunch at 11:30, Annual Meeting at Noon.

Cost: Free for member households (national, state, or local); $5 suggested donation per person for non-members. Membership is only $20/household and lasts for one year; you can join online here or bring this form with your payment to the picnic.

Bird Walk: Princess Place is the “Jewel of Flagler County.” We will view many types of birds along Pellicer Creek, from wading birds to warblers and rails and raptors. Accessibility: low - often walking on grass, sand paths, and shell paths (some sidewalk). eBird: 191 species

Annual Meeting: (brief!!) meeting of members to vote for the board for the 2024-2025 season. If you're interested in serving on the board, please fill out the Board Interest Form here.

How to Find Us: Drive all the way to the end of Princess Place Road (after you cross the bridge, keep going), to where the historic house and barn overlook Pellicer Creek. Park along the fence.

What to Bring: The chapter will provide sandwiches, beverages (soft drinks & water) and paper products. Please bring lawn chairs, a cooler and a dish to share! Suggestions include (but are not limited to):

  • Sides:

  • Stuffed / deviled Eggs

    1. Fruit, Potato or Pasta Salad

    2. Cole Slaw or Baked Beans

    3. Chips or Veggies and Dip

    4. Sliced Cantaloupe or Watermelon

    5. Pickles and Olives

  • Cakes, Cupcakes, or Cookies

    1. Cobbler or Banana Pudding

    2. Other sweet delights!
