Birds of a Feather Fest 2015

It all began with an idea. We wanted to create a space where people could celebrate birds, share knowledge, and connect over conservation. What followed was a year of planning, collaboration, and small risks that turned into a festival.

Keynote Speaker: Greg Miller

What better way to kick off an annual birding festival than by inviting “Mr. Big Year” to be our keynote speaker and one of our trip leaders.

Beginners Welcome

Having been beginners once too, we recognized that a birding festival can be inimidaitng for a new birder, or for people with differing abilities or even with kids. That’s why we offered beginner bird walks - all festival long - on the hour. For free. It was a big hit.

Highlighting Local Conservation Groups

Early on we wanted to have a festival that helped shine a light on all of the wonderful things that our community was doing to protect the natural environment. Our exhibit hall even featured a local elementary school project focused on gardening.

The Next Generation

When we first came up with the idea of Birds of a Feather Fest, we didn’t want it to feel like other festivals. We wanted to build a family. We wanted to keep it fun. Our mascot PeaCee helped remind us to not take ourselves too seriously.
