Volunteer

The birds need you! Whether you're available for a year-long commitment or only for a specific day, there are lots of ways to get involved with your chapter and make a difference for birds. Contact flagleraudubon@gmail.com for more information.

Board of Directors

We are looking for people with a variety of skills - you don't need to be a great birder to make a difference for birds! Whether you have administrative or business expertise, conservation or science background, or previous board/volunteer experience there's a place here for you. Candidates should participate in Flagler Audubon activities for one year before applying.

New board members are voted in each year at the May picnic. Board meetings occur monthly on third Thursdays, 6:00-7:30pm, typically on Zoom.

 Year-Round Opportunities

  • Plants for Birds - coordinates education programs to encourage use of native plants in local gardens, creating a healthy habitat for birds and their food sources.

  • Outreach/Education - coordinates booths at festivals and fairs and coordinates volunteers to man the booths; coordinates with local schools or social organizations to schedule speaking engagements and finds volunteer speakers; assists with relationships between Audubon and other conservation organizations.

Seasonal Opportunities

  • Shorebird Stewarding - protect nesting shorebirds on the beach. Learn more or sign up here

  • EagleWatch (Oct-May) - monitor one or more eagle nests in the local area. For more info or to sign up, go to www.EagleWatchFlorida.org

  • Christmas Bird Count (CBC) Compiler (late fall-Jan) - administrative role, no birding expertise required. Confirm participants, provide forms, collect & enter data. Participants are already experienced in the CBC and know their role. The count day is always the first Friday of the count window, Dec 14 - Jan 5; Flagler Audubon hosts a party for participants at the end of the day. Compiler manual available. Learn more here or contact flagleraudubon@gmail.com.

One-Time Opportunities

  • Booth Sitter - sit at a booth for a two-hour time slot at a local fair or festival and share info about Audubon with the public. Don't worry - we'll pair you with an Audubon member who has done this before. We will provide handouts and brochures. For a list of open time slots, go to our TrackItForward page.

  • Speaker - have a presentation about birds? Sign up to present at the monthly meeting or for a local club or school.

  • Field Trip Leader(s) - for a particular field trip, point of contact for any questions in advance of the event, meets participants early at Winn Dixie parking lot for carpool, and leads the trip. Makes reservations at a restaurant for after the trip.

  • Bird Walk Leader(s) - for a particular bird walk, point of contact for any questions in advance of the event, meets participants early at the bird walk location, and leads the walk.
